“10 Publishing Myths, Insights Every Author Needs to Succeed” by W. Terry Whalin

Published by Morgan James Publishing, Morgan James

“10 Publishing Myths, Insights Every Author Needs to Succeed” is a must read for writers no matter where you are in your writing career. Each Myth is real and presented in an inspiring move forward, practical argument, from a writer who’s been there.

Some of my favorite parts include:
1.    Take responsibility for your work,
2.    Create your own marketing plan and make it happen,
3.    A great way to start out publishing your work is to write for magazines,
4.    Every time you connect with an editor or agent you are making an impression—make it a good one!

W. Terry Whalin gives helpful recommendations and references to further your writing career. He talks about growing your skills by making a commitment to study the craft of writing by reading how-to books consistently, month by month. Take the long view of success, little steps to promote your writing and yourself over time.

I recommend this book for every writer and aspiring author.
It is loaded with practical tips and actionable direction.

Deborah Lyn,

Thank you for this terrific review of my 10 Publishing Myths book. So much of the publishing process is outside of anything the writer can control. Many things can go off the rails. In 10 Publishing Myths, I'm helping authors have realistic expectations and understand there are a series of actions they CAN control--and I encourage them to do those things.

Lovely and important. Authors and publishers can never have too much information on our industry. It is complicated. So if our visitors and subscribers have already read my book, I urge you to read this one, too. So much to know; so many potholes to fall into!
Best,
Carolyn Howard-Johnson.

Important review, Deborah. There are so many pitfalls in the publishing business, authors need all the help they can get. I read 10 Publishing Myths and it's definitely helpful to writers.

I agree that this is an important review. I own 10 Publishing Myths and must say that page 2 of Terry's book saved me from making a grave mistake by publishing my first book with a "vanity" publisher. He suggested that an author Google the name of the publishing company + complaints. Oh my, I found out my publisher was scamming its authors. The authors had started a private Facebook page which I joined. We hired an attorney who went after the publisher's finances. Unfortunately, I haven't kept up with the latest but the goal was to put this publisher out of business. Since then I've taken Terry's advice from many other suggestions he makes in his book.
